Fitting a catheter clip

You may be wondering why catheter and leg bag support is so important.

The Ugo Fix Gentle is designed to fixate and support your urethral or suprapubic catheter. If your catheter is attached to a urine drainage bag, we recommend that you use additional support for the weight of your catheter leg bag as the Ugo Fix Gentle is not designed to take the full weight of a filling leg bag. The weight of the catheter leg bag filling will cause tension on the bladder neck if it is not adequately supported. You may choose to use a leg bag sleeve or a bag belt as these are both designed to support the full weight of a leg bag as it fills.

Before applying the Ugo Fix Gentle to your skin

It’s important that you secure your catheter into the Ugo Fix Gentle catheter clip before applying the catheter clip to your skin. The reason you put the catheter in the catheter clip first is to allow you to position the catheter clip correctly rather than manoeuvring the catheter to suit where you’ve already positioned the clip.

Step 1: Remove the catheter clip from its pouch and open the grey clip part of the catheter clip. On the Ugo Fix Gentle, you will feel a click before the clip opens.
Step 2: Insert your catheter into the catheter clip. The Ugo Fix Gentle catheter clip is compatible with all two-way indwelling catheters. The catheter clip secures the catheter at the bifurcation, this is the section at the end of the catheter where it splits in two. There is an arrow on the clip which you will want to be pointing up the catheter towards the bladder. Your catheter will only fit into the catheter clip if it is positioned correctly.
Step 3: Close the catheter clip. The Ugo Fix Gentle closes with a click to ensure you know it is properly closed.

Applying the Ugo Fix Gentle to your skin

Once your catheter is securely in the catheter clip, you are ready to apply your catheter clip to your skin. When using the Ugo Fix Gentle there is no need to prepare your skin. You simply just need to ensure your skin is clean and dry before applying the clip.

On the Ugo Fix Gentle catheter clip there is an arrow. Ensure this arrow is pointing back towards your bladder.

Before applying the catheter clip to your skin ensure there is a small allowance in your catheter tubing. We recommend an allowance of 2-4cm slack on the catheter when you position your catheter clip to allow natural movement of the catheter with your body.

Step 1: Remove one side of the protective backing on the silicone gel pad and position the catheter clip in a position to suit you. Remember, this can be on your abdomen or your thigh.
Step 2: Remove the second side of the protective backing and smooth onto your skin. The soft silicone gel pad should gently grip your skin immediately.

If the catheter is pulling or you feel any tension in your urethra when you stand up or try to move, simply peel off the silicone gel pad and reposition where needed. You can do this as many times as you need to until you are completely comfortable with your catheter and catheter clip.

Ensure you are not allowing the Ugo Fix Gentle to support the full weight of your filling leg bag. We recommend using other fixation and support devices in addition to the Ugo Fix Gentle. We offer a range of compatible devices, visit our Ugo Urology shop page here.
